  • The unprecedented late spring heatwave culminated with a maximum of 44.0oC recorded on Wednesday 18th November. It exceeded the previous record of 41.8oC set on the 30th November 1993.

  • This maximum of 44.0oC also makes it one of the hottest day on record for any month.

  • The maximum was at least 40.0oC for 8 consecutive days from 12th to the 19th November. This was more typical of a mid to late summer heat wave and easily topped the average of 0.6 days over 40 in November.

  • To gain an appreciation of the severity of this heatwave, records of the November periods for the last 9 years (which were amongst the hottest in 129 years of records) are provided below

  • Most welcome rains amounting to 63mm fell on the 21st and 22nd and this was followed by another 21mm on the 26th.

  • November total rainfall of 85.4mm was the best since 103.6mm fell in 1977
