OLD GHAN RESTAURANT |
|
| Patrons can dine on the old
platform which is now enclosed, or in the ladies waiting room where the fireplace is
welcome in winter. The restaurant has full bar facilities and its specialities include kangaroo, quandong-based desserts and sauces, as well as the popular Ghan Burger. Chef Bob Andersson has over 20 years experience and is known for his high-quality meals and country-sized serves. The menu changes regularly and includes a children's menu. |
|
| The gallery specialises in
Flinders Ranges art and artists and extends from the walls of the restaurant to the
original ticket office. A wide range of souvenirs and gifts is available. Patrons are welcome to browse at any time. |
|
| The railway station was built
in 1884 after the original timber building burnt down. The original Ghan train to Marree, and later Alice Springs, passed through Hawker until 1956. Hawker then operated the local line until 1970 when the station finally closed and fell into disrepair. In 1989 the station was restored to become the Old Ghan Restaurant and Gallery. The station and goods shed are heritage listed. |
