Annual Hawker Art Exhibition goes into recess

The Hawker Art Exhibition Committee has held its AGM in early March 2009 at which the future of the Exhibition was given a serious review.

As a result of this meeting we wish to inform artists and visitors that the Exhibition will go into recess for 2009.

The prime reasons for coming to this decision are:

The lack of community volunteers who are committed to lead and manage the Exhibition
The deteriorating economy and the uncertainties of the future
The numerous other exhibitions being held at the time, both locally and regionally, all competing for a shrinking market.

The Committee has retained its previous office bearers and will have its next AGM in early March 2010. At this meeting a decision will be made regarding the future of the Exhibition.

The following will happen to keep artists informed:

Artists who have exhibited at least once since 2004 have been sent a letter informing them of the Committee's decision about going into recess
If an Exhibition is to be held in 2010, artists who have exhibited since 2006 will receive a letter by the end of March 2010.

We would like once again to thank all our artists and thousands of visitors who have helped to make the Hawker Art Exhibition such a successful and well-liked event since 1982.
